I have problems using Loathing 1.5 on some maps. When I try to place units or scenery, the programm just crashes with an unhandled error msg. This happens about every 10 seconds on some maps. I am using Windows 98.
Is there any reason why this happens and how can I fix it? Its very annoying!

Thank you for your help,
Phex.

Twice, I've had the same problem with crash on saves using Win XP. Mac OS X Loathing doesn't have this problem, however. In fact, after making some changes and saving the mesh once on a Mac, I can then transfer it back to the PC and it works and saves fine again.

I am getting mad!
What can I do to prevent regular loathing crashes?! My Colormap, Displacement Map, everything is finished, scenercy and projectiles are ready but I cant place more than 2 units on this map without causing a crash! ARGH!!!

Hey Phex, I'll try to help but need to start with some questions. What's the dimensions of the map? What are the upper and lower bounds of your displacement map? Do you have a reflect map, shadow map or passibility in place yet? Are scenery, models or projectiles placed already, or does it crash on what is basically a clean map?

Mine crashes, and I know exactly how to reproduce it.

When I have an empty action with unit subj identifier. If I remove one of the unit from the view port, this unit becomes "unknown" in the subj list. If I try to add more units to that list before erasing that "unknown", loathing crashes.

Im on Windows XP, btw

Yeah, Zeph, Loathing has always done that. Mor than once I've cursed myslef for forgetting to delete that "unknown" in the subj list.

Hey ChrisP,

Thank you for your help and sorry for ignoring your post. I was so frustrated that I had to retire to real life for a few weeks...

What's the dimensions of the map?

1536(width) x 1792(height)

What are the upper and lower bounds of your displacement map?

-3.50 to 5.00

Do you have a reflect map, shadow map or passibility in place yet?

reflection, shadow, terrain maps are placed.

Are scenery, models or projectiles placed already, or does it crash on what is basically a clean map?

Scenery and models are placed, also a few units. But when I try to add more units, it crashes.

I experienced the crash behaviour on several maps. The most important map where it happens is basically copied from the Chimera map "Unhallowed Ground" (at least color map etc). But since I wanted to include a massive scripting and already coded an external script-program to realize these ideas, its very annoying that all attempts to continue result in a crash.

rgds,
