Problem starting the game (WinXP) - I'm sure it's not the 1gb RAM error
Hi.
I just installed the game half an hour ago apllied the patch 1.3 and wanted to play it. But after the intro movie the game just crashed without any error message. Then I installed patch 1.51. When I tried to start the game again I got a black screen for about 1 sec and then it turned back to windows so the problem is the same.
What can I do to make it work ?
Win XP Pro SP2
Athlon 3200+
GeForce FX 5600
512 mb RAM

TFL 1.5 is still in beta, I'm hoping to have another release of it in the next couple of days. Right now I'm focused on some administrative work. I'll post something here when I have another beta to test.
One thing to note: You need to install the 1.3 patch before installing the 1.5 beta
If anyone out there knows what files need to be updated from 1.x thru 1.3 please let me know so I can build a comprehensive updater for 1.5.

I patched it first to 1.3 and then to 1.5 beta, but the problem is there in every version. I tried 1.0, 1.3 and 1.5 and every time I run the game I just get a black screen for about 1 sec and then ... nothing ... windows. Not even an error message. So I started to wonder, if it is a problem caused by WinXP.
Ok all development work is now complete on TFL 1.5, I've updated the download archives. Your screen should now show Build 263 in the upper right when you start up. Please do not use any compatability flags on this update it has been updated to work on W2k & XP. If no bugs are found in the next 2 weeks, I will remove the expiration date and make a final build.
You can download the latest build using the links on the Projects->TFL 1.5 page.

I tested the new update. I'm still not able to start the game.
Again I just get a black screen and then... windows again.
Here's the new log.txt

Since it occurs in every version you have tried, I'm going to guess you might have a bad install. Try uninstalling the software and then deleting the install directory to get any missed items. Then do a full install from the CD and see if you can run it. Since you only have 512mb of RAM you should be able to run the original version, it does have some issues with XP but it will start up. Once you have it running then install the 1.5 update.
Updating your video card drivers wouldn't be a bad idea either if the above doesn't work.

Hi! I just installed TFL 1.3 then the 1.5b patch. I get something similar; a not-enough-memory error with 1.3 then it opens with 1.5b. By default OpenGL is selected, fine, but I get a black screen although I CAN hear the sound effects ("The bridge is being attacked!"). Changing to software rendering (after using the task manager to kill myth) and it appears to work fine. Oh, yes, Windoze XP SP2, HP Pavilion dc1067ea, 1GB RAM, tons of disk space. I read the "read this thread first" thread and so I suppose in both these cases maybe it's this "doesn't work on all systems" problem. Does that sound like it might answer both problems? Shame - I wanted to see it run well with a faster system than my old iMac. Software should be okay to run it but I'd really like to get OpenGL up and running. Another question; what sort of resolutions are possible? It opens with 640x480 or whatever it is; I wonder, is it possible to change or at least look at what's available? I remember on my iMac it asks what resolution you want on the first boot. I haven't tried to install Myth 2 with the Fallen Levels yet; another way around, I suppose.
Hi again. I guess you're addressing me with that. This is a notebook and my comment about resolution seems now a bit strange to me. I'm not sure why I made that comment as in software rendering it's obviously using 1280x768. Anyway, that looks fine as indeed you say it should. The graphics card of this is a . . . "Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile" according to the taskbar tray thingy. It has OpenGL (I tried changing a few settings to see if that helped - it didn't) and Myth 2 1.5.1 works with Direct3D but doesn't work with OpenGL either; again, I hear the sounds but the screen is black. The settings for the card and monitor appear to be fine as far as I can tell but to return to the first thread again maybe it just doesn't work with this. Fallen Levels plug-in seems fine although I've only briefly looked at Crow's Bridge. So, I think I'll use that if I can work out what all the various check-box options mean.
