no ascii characters for winxp?

I just reinstalled my favorite RTS of all times, Myth TFL. I'm a little miffed that I can't recreate my old screen name because hitting the windows key along with any number of letter keys minimizes Myth instead of creating the desired characters. Someone on Playmyth sent me to this page, but I couldn't find anything about this issue. I don't want to screw around in my registry because I know enough to know that I don't know enough not to screw everything else up while trying to blunder my way through this problem. Any help? Thanks.

It has nothing to do with Myth, its your operating system. Use Win95, ME, or 98 if you want that functionality.

Hold shift down before and during hitting wondows key should work
