Hey folks. Today was the first time I've launched Myth 2 1.5.1c since upgrading to OS 10.4.3 on a RevB iMac G5, and I discovered the game has no sound. It has played well in the past on 10.4-10.4.2, so I'm wondering if the .3 upgrade somehow killed the sound. All other games, apps, mp3's and mpegs play sound.

Redownloaded and reinstalled 1.5.1c from your site. Restated the Mac. Sound is not turned off in Myth prefs, so I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?

thanlks-Bill

EDIT-I just tried again and noticed the F3 and F4 keys are disabled. I used to use these to adjust the sound when playing Myth2 in OS9.2. Is this just a problem with 10.4.3?

that's truely bizarre... I'm on 10.4.3 and my sound still works, as do my F3 and F4 keys for functioning with that sound. Check if there's anything in your myth_log.txt on exit of the game perhaps? It might be able to point in a somewhat correct direction...

Hey Graydon, thanks for the reply.

Here's a myth_log.tx I just ran. Doesn't show much, I'm afraid. I'm thinking I might just take the time to reinstall OS X, although in all other regards the machine is rock stable.

More info: Just tried to play a couple .wmv files. Got an error message that "This file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported." Then the files went on to play without sound.

These are files I've had on my HD for awhile and have played before without any problems. Using Windows Media Player 9.0, which is the newest version for the Mac.

Myth II and Windows Media Player use the same codec and/or similar compression? Now I'm getting interested in figuring this out.

Nope, Myth and WMP are not related whatsoever. Try opening the program "Audio MIDI Setup" in Applications/Utilities, and make sure the settings there are set up properly. For example, the output format should be something sane like 44100hz, and your default outputs should be set correctly.

Wow, Myrd, you're my new hero! Audio Midi Setup was set to 96000hz. Switching to 44100hz fixed the problem.

Can an application change those settings, or should I just blame some gremlins?

Thanks much!
