Now that I have Leopard installed on my mac, Amber and other fancy apps (like Apathy, Antero etc.) cannot run anymore. When opening the apps, I get a message stating that the classic environment is no longer supported. it Reverting to the previous OSX version does not look an easy task.
Anybody can spare a suggestion?
(or comfort me even?)
Amber on Leopard
1. You can revert to Tiger.
2. You can resize your partition, and allocate 10-20 gigs to a new partition and install Tiger on there.
3. You can get an external hard drive, and install Tiger there.
4. You can setup and use SheepShaver, to run Mac OS 9.0.4 or earlier - but this requires some amount of effort to configure and you need a Mac OS 9.0.4 (or 8.6 or some such) CD.
Options 1-3 only apply if you have a PPC Mac (which I assume you do). On Intel, 4 is the only option to run Classic apps in.

5. Spend $50-75 and pick up an old B&W G3 that wil run OS9 and OSX natively, and a Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor switcher so you don't need two sets of keyboards/mice/monitors.
Technically if you JUST want to run OS 9 and the Mac Myth apps you could probably find an old 6xxx or 7xxx or 4400 series machine for way under $50, maybe you have one in your closet?

Other posts on this forum have made it seem like that isn't really an option, given the status of Oak. Oh yeah, an I don't think you need to buy a computer to run sheepsaver...GodzFire wrote:or.........OR
Oak could be released so the other 98% of the Myth community can have access to it and not have to GO BUY A COMPUTER just to help keep Myth alive.

First off, let me thank you all for your suggestions. Unfortunately none of them is a viable option for me (some of them not even economically viable ones) .
-it is an already known issue that macs running leopard cannot be reverted to Mac OX 10.4 or previous versions, without following complicated procedures. I experienced some nasty effects when trying to reinstall the previous system on my Dual G5 PPC.
-I cannot make new partitions, I use my computer for business too. And since I have some important data I don't want to lose or copy back and forth on my comp. I would never dare too much and initialize my hard disk, when I have important deadlines coming close.
-Sheepshaver comes in handy, save it requires a mac rom. I will need to learn how to extract it from my PPC comp.
-I wouldn't even consider alternatives which imply the loss of money (and time!).
-Perhaps all I can do, is to use an external hard drive. my only problem is, the one I am currently using has already stored all my back ups! Perhaps it is time to buy another one. Besides it is time for xmas gifts..
-Since all I have to do, is no more than three operations with Amber (2 overhead maps, and putting a shadow bitmap into a new collection) I think I will consider also the option of begging somebody for help. Thanx again.

As long as it's a one time, or couple of times to import the overhead maps (there's always something to tweak)I'd be happy to do that for you.guildenstern wrote:...-Since all I have to do, is no more than three operations with Amber (2 overhead maps, and putting a shadow bitmap into a new collection) I think I will consider also the option of begging somebody for help. fyi, I am not familiar putting a shadow bitmap into a new collection - are you talking about adding shadows to an existing collection so basically replacing the bitmaps in an existing collection? Or something different? If the former I can do that too, if something different please explain. (my only collection editing experience is replacing bitmaps)

That's easy. If you already have an OS 9 System folder, the ROM file is in the System Folder - called "Mac OS ROM."guildenstern wrote:Sheepshaver comes in handy, save it requires a mac rom. I will need to learn how to extract it from my PPC comp.
I don't think SheepShaver works with 9.2 though - you have to make sure it's 7.5.2 to 9.0.4.
If it's an Old World ROM you'll have to have a program called ROM Grabber to extract it - which is itself a Classic app, so if you don't already have OS 9 you're kinda screwed on that one. New World ROMS can just be taken right out of the system folder, though.
There's a good FAQ about SheepShaver here: http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/en/proje ... r/help/faq
The cake is a lie.
