Post by carlinho »

anybody started or did high res units for WWII?

on top of Santa's Head's units, did anybody released or is working on a higher res approach?

would anybody be interested in doing so?

haha
well, the Greek Plugin is on it's work.
Death's Avatar, Pompey, Gugusm and Jagman are in for the ride.
There's a lot to do, specially in making it fun.

But I always had in mind once I finished the Greek Plugin, to do a CARENTAN map with nice town models and tanks and new soldiers...specially different uniforms for americans and germans, and churches and destroyed houses...

so I'm not saying I'll start this right away...as I first need to finish the Greeks...
but here and there while I'm waiting for the guys to have more time for testing to work on the Greek plug and make it more fun to play
.. in the meantime, at least I want to plan ahead something different...

and jeeeez, I'm never, ever embarking on another plug by meself!!!

I'd love to see a re-texture of the Jinn models from Nionel, turned into a giant urban combat mesh. That would be the coolest ever.

something like that was I thinking
imagine models where you could walk in, and post maybe a sniper on top of a church tower...
some new tanks, some new animated soldiers...

Of course I don't have the time or energy to undertake this myself
specially before finishing the Greek plug...
but if some of the few of us still making plugs join...
little by little....
who knows...?

just keep in mind ww2 players usually need a lot of space to fight. A claustrophobic map wouldnt be played as much as a very open map like Urban Recon for example

yeah, I agree
I was thinking something more like this:

Image

with open spaces for tanks and soldiers with rpg or bazookas to hide behind fences or inside destroyed houses.
where you can move freely with tanks in open spaces but need infantry to clear the houses / church

Image

I don't have the time now...as I need to finish the Greek tag, I just was throwing a comment to see if anybody was doing something similar to maybe help with something

for example I did this morning this jagdpanther, from a model I had from the web, using Santa's head's tank elements...

Image

I have no clue though if it will lag badly in high res....
takes a toll on a mac...not so sure yet on pc

anybody tested high res units online?

here's a demo, of course still not finished.

http://hl.udogs.net/files/Uploads/%20Us ... anther.mov

I remember point had all the tank models for WWII ...

and you zeph did more wwii maps than anybody here...hehe

wouldn't it be nice GRAY? a church with a tower from where to shoot?
and a railway bridge dividing the town in 2?

whatever, just had that in mind...
i'd better go out and have some beers and forget about it haha

The apostrophe should be replaced by %27 so the link doesn't break.

Man, carl, you just can't stop yourself from wanting to make other ambitious stuff. Sounds like it would be fun to play.

WWII

I made the carentan color map several years ago... and have all the german and us uniformed soldiers including all the tanks and vehicles models for that one... just missing the buildings :) Warfare aVa folder... wouldnt be to hard to redo with higher resolution if higher res made any sense...

the one thing I wish the tanks could do is have a rotatable turret. but that would likely be an amberer's nightmare, no?

Sounds impossible, since the units need to face the target when it attacks. But if its scripted, you could make it appear like it is possible. It would be very limited.

Yeah, the myth engine doesn't support that.

It really wasn't designed for vehicles, so vehicles will always feel a little out of place compared to regular units, unfortunately.
