Whens Oak gonna be out?
im only just starting into Myth modding and i learned i need Amber or Oak to do so. Amber is a Mac only program so im told and im not going to spend a whole damn day downloading a Mac emulator over my dial-up just for one program, so im bothering Magma... when are you gonna have Oak out?
You won't need a collection editor until you are done with rendering the images you need first. If the collection you wish to make is very similar to one that you know of than you could use Tahoe. For example, if you are making a unit that has the same size as the images of a berserk with the same or similar number of frames and views, then you could just open the berserk collection and edit it to have your images instead.
As for an emulator for the use of Amber. If you are using Windows, you can download SheepShaver. This 5.84 MB zip file has the emulator and a TXT file with instructions I made on how to install it. The only thing needed to run it besides these files is an actual Mac OS. SheepShaver can run MacOS 8.5 through MacOS 9.0.4. I have only tried 8.6 on it and it works.
Here are some links I found in the Myth Graveyard that may give some info on making new units.

There may be more, I don't recall.

if you are learning mapmaking, I dont suggest you go into collection editing(making new graphics) I'd simply modify what's already done in fear and play around with loathing.
When you are comfortable with those 2 tools, you can start creating maps from scratch and eventually make new units(don't even bother if you've never used a 3d program and do not want to devote at least 50 hours of learning)

I think you only get the beta privs if Myrd or Melekor know of you as a mapmaking person. If you've got no mapmaking skill or knowledge, beta testing Oak is kind of futile. Unless you're very familiar with collection editing in Amber, there's no way to help suss out the subtle differences between the two programs.
If all you want to do is _use_ oak, then you have to wait. End of story.
