So, I have been playing Myth 2 since I was a kid and recruited a couple of my friends also to test it a couple of weeks ago. We all like the game very much and have been having fun playing the campaign (my buddies don't have original Myth 2 anywhere, so I had to borrow them my own). We haven't been testing the multiplayer over LAN, but we were thinking about a unit that could spawn new units (how hard would it be to implement one? like say, make one new unit or use an existing unit that should be modded) and would it be possible to get the game lenght to unlimited (we all kinda like "sandbox" games, so unit spawning and setting the game lenght would be awesome for a couple of ideas for RPG+sandbox) how hard would it be to make, say, a plugin?
During writing this text I happened to find C.O.M.A... need to test this first out.
Thanks for the answers!

Talk about anything here.

Well, it depends on what do you exactly want do do (respawning enemy units and make them attack you consantly for example or respawning your own units, or respawning all of the units etc.), but basically it isn't to hard to implement. As you probably know, an app called Loathing allows you to edit Myth maps. And every unit has a box where you can select 3 things - "respawns" - unit will respawn at it's starting location, "respawns at death location" - it will respawn at it's death location, "respawns via script" - it will respawn when it will be 'made' to do so using Unit Control map action.
Of course, selecting one of those flags will just make unit respawn, but if you use some scripting, it will do whatever you want. All in all, respawning units and making the game endless is doable and not so hard.

If you seek a long coop, you may want to try Mazzarin's Demise VI. It can take about 2.5 hours to beat. Lower difficulties have less player units. The units are tougher and have more attacks. Keep in mind many of the units in there use inventory. It comes with a manual I think, so it should help when you don't know certain things. Though Mazz isn't an RPG, just a long level where you have to kill the enemies and then battle their boss at the end.

Maybe read the original post and think on it before you say it was unrelated, ooga.

Thanks for the replies, cleared a couple of things. Need to test out that mazzarin's demise map, and thanks for the respawn info, need to check that out when getting back to my windows PC.
Re: unit spawning and game lenght...
One just kind of assumes you're talking strictly about solo maps, but after further consideration and thought... What benefit would unlimited respawns and 'unlimited game length' do for a solo map with conclusive objectives? Once you achieve them, the game ends. If this is what you were in fact querying about, can you answer that question? Even by making endless respawning enemies, once you complete the objectives, the game ends.
If all you're looking to do is have a map with endless waves of enemies coming at you to slaughter, you'd probably be better off scripting a simple map exclusively for that purpose.
I'll toss this out there since nobody's mentioned it...If one wishes to play an 'unlimited' multiplayer game, however, you can always just go into the game settings and tick the 'Deathmatch' option, which effectively does the same as ticking the 'respawn' flag in loathing. The unit dies, and respawns via a world knot entrance at it's original starting location. I don't think myth multiplayer allows you to set game length to longer than 90 minutes, but if you're playing successive games on a LAN, the game will keep track of stats for players over multiple games. After the 90 minutes runs out, you just hit start again and keep going.

Of course if you just want to fight one or more human opponents forever (e.g. longer than 90 minutes) just make the game CTF DeathMatch and meet in the middle.
Not that I would KNOW about long deathmatch games of course, but I imagine this would work since even if someone were to TRY to take a flag, it's pretty near impossible unless the flag owner has all his units sitting off in a corner somewhere avoiding action. As long as the flag owner is fighting somewhere on the map, units will keep getting respawned at the flag so no one is going to be able to take the flag. Unless I am misremembering something.

Re: unit spawning and game lenght...
I'm actually kind of partial to LMOTH in Deathmatch. Just sit at the ol' spawn point and continually direct respawning troops into the middle…Great fun.
Of course, then I brilliantly decided to make a mesh with Shiver in it, and my opponent managed to kill her at her respawn point, right in the middle of my other troops. You can imagine what that caused.
...boom, spawn, boom, spawn, boom, spawn...

The cake is a lie.

In heroes of haxors 3 is a never ending coop map with endless waves of units. It's actually finite, but I doubt anyone can ever beat it.Graydon wrote: If all you're looking to do is have a map with endless waves of enemies coming at you to slaughter, you'd probably be better off scripting a simple map exclusively for that purpose.

O'right, so now I've been able to fool and play around with Fear and C.O.M.A plug-in. Noticed that COMA has a longer game time limit (450min) or then something has happened that I have no idea about. I was very happy to see there is a ingame unit spawner possibility for multiplayer, and after a while, I tried to get a unit spawning option for single player using Fear. Been trying for a couple of days and nothing happens when I try to get it to work, also tried looking trough the COMA plugin for a couple of hints about this, but didn't help me enough. I just read that you have to extract every tag by itself from a mod if using UnTag, otherwise it won't work (sounded a bit strange)...
And now I'm also much more happier 'cause one of my old buddies just found his old Myth 2 mac installer

Re: unit spawning and game lenght...
Well you might not have to extract every tag. It all depends on how the plug works. As for it not working for you, keep in mind that you have to have the units you are trying to spawn in your unit list in Loathing. Even if there are zero of those types of units you have to have them on the list for each team you want them to be able to appear.
So if you made a berserk that can shoot out projectiles that turn into Dwarves. Make sure that type of Dwarf is in Loathing's unit marker list for each team that can have it spawnable.
