So this means it going to take very very long to remodel all units?

No one is doing that. But if someone wanted, yea they would take lots of time to do it, specially if they don't have much free time.

However, all that said and done, it doesn't mean that there aren't people developing _new_ high res 3rd party units for plugins still in development. 1.7 and detail textures have been in development for quite a while now in the private community. The mapmakers involved in said private testing have had the lead time to prepare project content in anticipation for the release of 1.7.

In short, nobody should rule out the possibility of _some_ new high res units!

one possibility would be to add polygonal units but not convert original models. That means anyone would be able to make his own units in 3d for his own plugin. There would be no compatibility issues that way

Absolutely, I think there's plenty of folks out there who could do decent, low poly versions of the Bungie troops. It's just a shame they're all retired/busy!

the point is not to port myth units to 3d polygonal models, it is to allow the creation of such units in future plugins. If it was possible, I can assure you all that all my new units would be made like that. Plus the process of importing animations to myth takes much less time then rendering 500 bitmaps and processing them all in photoshop. When Amadeus and I were making WW2:Recon for myth3, making modifications to the units and its animation took minutes. That is not possible in myth2 since you have to render the whole animation again if you want to modify something. Attachments in myth3 are also very useful when you want some randomness with your units.

Exactly. One of the few things I liked about Myth 3 was the variety of guys like the berserks; holding different weapons.
