I responded to your report in the bug tracker as follows...

"I just persuaded a friend to fire up his old Win98, install 1.5 and try to connect. He got onto playmyth without a problem, no red games, everything working properly. That tells us it isn't an endemic problem with win98 as such. The next thing I'd ask is - do you have a firewall or router? If so, are they setup to only allow an executable with a certain name to communicate on ports 6320 to 6350? Other than that we can't think of any reason for it offhand, though we are checking the related code."

Having looked at the relevant sourcecode, what happens is this. Your machine sends the login and password details, and the server responds by saying you're in. That part is working fine. Next Myth looks to see what room you were last in (stored in a prefs file) and sends a packet asking to join it. If a denial packet comes back from the server or nothing is received after 5 seconds it tries another room, then another, and so on until all the rooms have been tried without success. Then the error message you see is produced.

So what's happening here is a network communications problem. Is there some form of firewall running on your end? That's the first thing to resolve. On our part we are already looking to see if there's been any change in the networking code in Myth to cause this to happen. So ... sorry I can't give you a solution immediately but we are working on it and will find what's wrong.

No firewall or router. I think its in the code, where as I have no problem logging in with 1.4.4 then log out try 1.5beta and the same error after the 5min. wait. Another thing that I dont believe to be pertinant is that after moving the Myth app to a diff folder or even after a fresh install and a patch upgrade i would double click the myth app. and would get an error saying like "a DLL file is missing called something like smack.DLL" Maybe there is a line in the code that says if ID=URzooked go to line 10,000. Line 10,000(after 5 min. loop) Print"There are no rooms available on PM.net......" :)

hehe, if only it were that easy.

Smackw32.dll should be installed off your myth 2 CD. its needed by the executable for playing cutscene movies.

I recently visited my brother and did a clean install of MythII on his new pc w/ Win XP and downloaded the 1.5 beta and it worked fine online. When I returned I upgraded my pc with new Hard drive, motherboard w/ modem and chip. Proceded to do a clean MythII install and download of 1.5 beta and get the same error "There are no open rooms available at PM.net. Try back again soon!" I installed Win 98se with my install disk. Something in the beta has changed that is not compatable with my Win 98se or my isp. I have not yet updated Win 98se at microsoft.com with the critical update or other updates such as DirectX, flash, etc. When I did the Win98se install I did not choose every selection, mb I need to add some software needed to play MythII from the Win98se install. I went back and installed all the options available in communications on the Win98se, because Network Neighborhood was not on my desktop. I am trying anything, even stuff that has a remote chance of changing anything. Any ideas?

I also have a pc that has a clean install of Win98se,after partitioning the Hard drive, with all the Windows critical updates. So I installed MythII, a new install, and downloaded the 1.5beta#2 and it also gave me the same error.

On your clean install would you post your mythlog.txt. Also cofirm that the OpenPlay folder is getting installed into your Myth II folder and it contains the TCP/IP file

Yes, I have a folder in MythII called openplay modules, but it is empty.

you should have a file called "TCPIP" or "tcpip.dll" in there (probably the latter, i think, as you're in windows). if you download the manual installer you can get it, or if you ask nicely someone on windows may be able to email it to you.

btw I do NOT have any firewall or router. And I use a shareware program called Enditall to kill all aps, programs, and processes not vital to MythII multiplayer before I try to login, because I used to use a 500 Mhz chip, old PC100 RAM,and a dial up connection; so that would reduce the lag almost to zero. I do not have any files in my openplay modules folder so i will try the manual 1.5 beta installer. Readme PDF file"2.Installation b.Run the installer. The installer will place the appropriate files where they need to be in order to udate your copy of MythII"...........................................I now downloaded the manual installer and the only thing that changed from the auto installer is... .DS_Store file was placed in four locations 1.MythII folder 2.Plugins folder 3. Openplay modules folder 4.metaservers folder --- When I click 'login' button from the Multiplayer set up screen a new window opens saying "connecting to PlayMyth.net... After a five minute wait the error "There are no open rooms available on PlayMyth.net. Try back again soon!" displays. So the claim that the 1.5 beta will install the appropriate files is incorrect. Also the manual installer did NOT install the file that you say I am missing, tcpip.dll. (next post on pg 2.)

Please fix the auto and the manual installers so they install all files that are needed to run MythII multiplayer with the 1.5 beta#2 on Windows 98se OS. They do NOT install tcpip.dll for me and maybe others. Maybe that .DS_Store file is somehow supposed to create it. If that is the case why is it not working for me and maybe others? :nocomment:

I have the same problem. I cannot login under 1.5. I can login fine under 1.4.4 so firewall issues should not matter. I have the file tcpip.dll in my open modules folder. The problem occurs when I change my old copy of myth II.exe with the new one. It will try to connect to the server and fail saying playmyth is down check your internet connection.

I don't know what you are talking about - I just downloaded the PC Manual installer and the file "TCPIP.dll" is inside the folder "openplay modules" after unzipping it. This is the file you are missing, please put it inside the "openplay modules" folder inside your Myth II folder.
