the files still download via the html site... just wondering if the same user and pw can be used viw a ftp program

if one does not learn from the failings of the past they are likely to suffer its return.
HL and FTP are different (hl implements a custom transfer protocol). Think Coke and Pepsi. 
The reason you can d/l the files via HTTP (from a browser) is because the file tree is exposed specifically for this to work. They could change settings and make it so only HL would be able to access the files.

HL is actually up, the ISP did a box change and assigned a new static IP for the box that HL is hosted on.
We just updated the DNS about an hour ago, so give it time to update. If you need to connect right away, use jrtaylor.com in place of hl.udogs.net
Also, any questions or concerns about HL should be brought up at the http://www.udogs.net forum. It is the quickest way to get a response as I am not a frequent browser of the tain/PM forums.
