vTFL sudden death bug

Post by Baron LeDant »

During the current vTFL tournament, I've noticed games seem to go to sudden death much earlier than I thought.

I confirmed this with the Keep (light) captures game of VS vs EMO, where with 4 mins to go, EMO tags all but one ball and has the remaining one contested, the game then suddenly goes to sudden death. I'm sure this also happened earlier in the tournament when DDD played TTT on Desert Terries, when we tagged all but one flag and had the last contested.

Now I might look stupid since I never played TFL multiplayer, but is this supposed to happen? I'm uncertain because vTFL has been around for around 4 years now and I've never heard of any complaints on it.

p.s. I have film if needed, but its part of the week by week match downloads on the Proelium site anyway.

unless i'm mistaken, that's the way captures works. The team that gets all balls/flags wins, if you have all but one, and the last one is in contention, that's sudden death for the game, no?

Well the thing is, in both games the contested ball/flag then was then captured by the losing team, the game then ended after 5 secs of uncontested play. This is certainly not the case in M2, so I was wondering if this was how it always worked in TFL or if its messed up.

The game time is basically made totally irrelevant if you tag all but one flag/ball and then contest the last one. I could definitely see this being exploitable, although you could always say its not that important to change it.

That's not what happened in either of those games :(.

You're saying that at one point TeamA has 5 flags and TeamB has 1 flag. Then, TeamA contests TeamB's last flag which causes the game to go into Sudden Death.

That would be stupid, and luckily that's not what happens/happened. It is true, however, that TFL "six flagging" is different than m2 flagging. Once one team has all the flags the game goes into Sudden Death and the game ends after no flag has been contested for five seconds. Whoever has the most flags at that point wins.
This makes it possible for the team who captured 6 flags first to lose. This would be accomplished by TeamA capturing 6 flags, the game going into SD as it should in TFL, and TeamB then miraculously keeping SD going long enough for them to capture 4 flags back from TeamA, and then letting SD run out.

In the des terries game, DDD gets 5 flags, leaving TTT with 1 flag. TTT has only a jman on their last flag, and a DDD ghol goes up to it and attacks it, contesting the flag, and thus leaving TTT with 0 flags. The game does not go into SD at that point, but only after the ghol walks the jman off of the flag and tags the flag for DDD, giving DDD all six flags, making the game go into SD. The jman walks back onto the flag, contesting it and thus extending SD beyond just five seconds. The DDD ghol walks off the flag, leaving TTT to have control of it, and 5 seconds later the game ends with DDD as the winner with 5 flags and TTT as the loser with 1 flag.

The keeps caps game was a little different. Emo captures 5 balls and has two warriors contest VS's last ball against a VS ghol. Again, the game does not into SD because of this. The two warriors kill the VS ghol, capturing the ball for Emo, giving them 6 balls and making the game go into SD. (Use Shift + F7 and you'll see that Emo does indeed have 6 balls for 1-2 seconds). VS was able to contest the western most ball before 5 seconds after Emo's capturing of six balls, so the game was in SD for a short while. A VS ghol captures one of Emo's southern balls during SD, but Emo kills the archers contesting the west ball, capturing it, and all balls are left uncontested for 5 seconds, so the game ends with Emo as the winner with 5 balls and VS as the loser with one ball.
