Joining a host which has the same IP..

Hi !
I have 4 computers in this house, and for some reason i can only host with the one directly linked to the router (others are on wifi), which is on windows 98.
I don't like to play on this old celeron 500, so I found a cool way to host :
I control it with VNC, and then I log on playmyth with a second account and host the game.
The people can join the host, and for some reason I can't !!
Any idea ?

I've had a similar problem, we had 2 computers behind an NAT router, one with the port forwarded for hosting. No problems, but if the second computer played in the first computers host (or vice versa), there was a very good chance of the the non-host computer crashing out.

i've encountered this as well. having several computers behind a NAT firewall in my router and one computer with port 3453 forwarded to its LAN IP, i can host TCP/IP games or on a metaserver, but the other computers on my LAN cannot join the host when it's on the metaserver. it is possible, however, when hosting TCP/IP games to get external players to join by using the router's external IP and the internal players using the local IP.

there may be a way around the metaserver problem, but i haven't figured it out yet.

Have you tried placing the host in the DMZ? I'm pretty sure most routers have a DMZ which basically completely removes the firewall for at least one machine. So then you should be able to hit that machine without port forwarding and therefore not have firewall conflicts.

No I didn't try it beacause then I wouldnt be able to use the other features provided by my ISP (free calls using VOIP)...
But you're right it would probably solve the problem.
