Myth 3 1.3.1 PC Update Failure
Myth 3 1.3.1 PC Update Failure
Hey Michael, I'm hoping you might know the answer to this. we had a number of people interested in Myth 3, and want to update to the most current version, which is 1.3.1, but can't. Both DarthRevan and Road report the following issue:
After the update to 1.3.1, when you run the program, it crashes right away. According to them, there's nothing in the Myth log to indicate why. In addition, Road's install was brand new as of last night, so it's not like there was old stuff in there.
Note this seems to be only happening on the PC side; 1.3.1 for Mac is working great.

Odd because I'm on a PC and 1.3.1 doesn't make me crash.

Hmm, I recently tried to install Myth III, but the installer won't run. Anyone know how to go about manually installing Myth III for OS X?
Not all of the files appear to be visible on the CD which is annoying, meaning some of them are part of the installer which of course won't run
This being on an Intel Mac anyway, if I have time I'll try on my G5 and copy it across.

Harv, I have an Intel Mac, and everything went smoothly on this end. Are you pulling from the original CD?

Yup, the installer just goes "Preparing to install" and then never does anything. What OS do you have, leopard?GodzFire wrote:Harv, I have an Intel Mac, and everything went smoothly on this end. Are you pulling from the original CD?

Installed latest M3 on PC a month ago with the same problem.
Can't remember what I did to resolve it, maybe update drivers?

Re: Myth 3 1.3.1 PC Update Failure
I have an old pre-Intel (PPC) mac running OS 10.2.8 and when I installed M3 on my Mac I was doing it from a Windows version of Myth III I had pickedu p in the bargain bin a few years ago so it took me some fiddling to get it to work.
If you want to do a manual install maybe this will help. I can't say this is the ONLY configuration or the BEST configuration but it works. Here is what I have in my my Myth III install folder.

Re: Myth 3 1.3.1 PC Update Failure
I managed to get it to install using SheepShaver, took a few attempts though as installing CarbonLib 1.4 was strangely glitchy, even though it's just a couple of extensions.
But yeah, copied across to OS X fine and runs. Myth 3 does show its age quite blatantly which surprised me, where Myth 2 maps with well-chosen detail textures actually look better overall! Though obviously the units could do with touching up.
Myth 3 does have the advantage of super-smooth unit animations though, though I never noticed just how square the Heron Guard's faces actually are.

If Myth 3 is going to be updated, could we get the online page to say Mariusnet, as it's confusing to myth newbies.

If you want to replace the existing gameserver gfx and text you just need an updated 1.3.1 patch with mnet gfx and text pasted in to replace the current pm gfx and text - or better yet, a modification to the M3 engine to look for and load a 'gameserver patch' file that could contain just the images and text to override. That way anyone with a new gameserver could release their own patch without having to re-release the whole 1.3.1 patch.Jon God wrote:If Myth 3 is going to be updated, could we get the online page to say Mariusnet, as it's confusing to myth newbies.

http://scorch.8m.net/m3/mariusnetdns/ or put the collection and string lists in the local folder which might be preferred if everyone is using a hex edited metaserver file, as the dns patch will result in red games if not all the parties involved have the patch.
Note the patch was created for my personal use and the graphic will appear misaligned on many resolutions.

Where to get the Mac 1.3.1 update?
A number of respondents to this thread claim to have updated their Mac M3 to 1.3.1. How did y'all do this when the required 1.3 update doesn't seem to available anywhere?
I've tried using the Mac 1.3.1 updater directly on the 1.0 installed game but get an error message saying the 1.3 update must be installed first.
Any ideas folks?
TIA,
dan k
