Possibly 1.7.1 problem

I am having a few issues with 1.7.1, or possibly just with myth itself as I only recently installed it on this machine. During the middle of games myth will freeze up my entire computer, force me to alt cnt delete and force quit the program.
Here is my crash log:

Does it happen if you switch to Software Rendering in the Myth II preferences (just for a test)? If it doesn't, then you should try update your graphics drivers.

Tried it again, it loaded and did not crash (just me in the game.) Changed back to open GL and set the Tex. MB to 512 (still just me in the game) and it didnt crash..
I'll try it with a regular online game.

Maybe it has something to do with the Compatibility Files feature that Vista and 7 have? Vista and 7 both don't allow programs to alter their own folders by default. Instead, each time Myth II tries to create files within one of its subfolders, it places it into a virtual folder. This can cause issues with Myth II because you can now have two files of the same name in the same folder which results in conflict.
There are two ways around this. Either change the privileges of the Myth II folder so programs can mess with it. OR... You can go and delete the extra files so that the only copies of the files are in the virtual folder. Take a look at
this image. The "Compatibility Files" button will only appear if there are files or subfolders in the virtual folder for the program folder you are in. If you wish, you can click it and it will take you to the virtual folder. You can click the back arrow to go back to the real folder.
The files in the virtual folder would be anything Myth II will create or modify. This includes your preferences, plugins for metaservers if you ever switch servers, files Fear/Loathing create, the tags cache file, the local folder files, and myth log. So these files you can go delete from the real folder and let Myth use the ones in the virtual folder.

Pyro,
I do not show the compatability files option in the folder. I do get a message "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" everytime I open Myth though.
I have gone into properties>security>permissions>full control, but it still pops up.
I just upgraded the drivers on my card, let me retest.
Thanks for the help guys.

I believe you can avoid the permissions issue alltogether by installing myth to a location which the OS doesn't "protect".
For example, C:\Myth II
instead of C:\Program Files\Myth II

Crashes still happening.. once every few games i load straight into postgame, once every one or two games i get an error message that says display driver stopped responding.
Myth is getting something stupid like 800-1000 fps while its working, not sure if its just an imcompatibility (5970s are still pretty new) or what.

If the display driver stopped responding, that's certainly a driver or hardware issue. Games can crash themselves, but if the driver goes down that indicates something more serious.

You can limit your FPS in the game preferences, or you can turn on vsync (also in preferences) to render at your monitor refresh rate.

A quick
google search shows that you aren't the only one having issues with the 5970 crashing.
I'd like to help more but I don't really have the hardware knowledge. Perhaps you could try posting on the amd forums.

Do single player games load correctly?
Does it load straight to post if you use the Software renderer?
How about the D3D renderer?
If you run OpenGL in windowed mode (so that you see the titlebar)?
Have you tried moving the Myth II folder as suggested above to get rid of the file errors?

How are you running the game? Just opening it or do you right click and "Run As Administrator"?
