Mazzarin's Demise V version 2 is now available from the following folder on uDog's HL:

http://hl.udogs.net/files/Myth%20II%201.5%20Stuff/Plugins/released/

Version 2 fixes the duplicating item bug/cheat discussed in the thread titled "Ugly Mazz bug". Again, my apologies for the terrible mess up, and my thanks to Graydon and Brainbug for pointing it out to me.

I'm sure Doobie will replace the old version in the downloads section as soon as he reads this and gets a chance. For those who would prefer not to download the whole file again, I would suggest using Iron Duke's excellent "Omnipatch Apply" application. It's a simple program that Magma members and testers have relied heavily upon for years now. Omnipatch has never been officially released by Iron Duke, I think due to the interface being primitive and unfinished, but it's really a wonderful and simple to use program as is.

The small patch file can be found in the same folder linked to above, and Omnipatch Apply can be found at:

http://hl.udogs.net/files/Uploads/Useful%20Tools/OmniPatch/

Use zip for PC, and sit (or tqz I think) for Mac.

Also, Heroic difficulty has been won on version 2. I'll try to get a summary typed up soon, but work has been crazy lately so it might not be ready till next week.

This still leaves Legendary undefeated. Mainly the goal of the Heroic contest was to dissuade inexperienced players from trying Legendary till they've had some practice. If a team ever does beat Legendary (Hah!) I promise to write another 1,000+ word description of the victory similar to what was done for Mazz 3. For the Legendary win, there is no condition barring too many beta testers from winning as I know first hand that they can't do it either.

The gauntlet has been dropped!

Btw - congrats to the victorious Mazz 5 heroic team.

The Mazz5 downloads page has been updated accordingly.

Aye, Ara said last night that heroic win doesnt count cause there were 6 testers plus the creator in there.... false info?

who cares if it were testers... after you played 5 games you know most of specials and ways to kill bosses etc.
now we've all played 10-15 and we managed to get watcher to yellow so...

imo your beta testing status gives you no advantage to a (good) player who's played 5-6 (decent) games with the same unit

Not entirely true. I can guarantee you've seen maybe 2/3s of all the attacks out there, and I can GUARANTEE that those same guys don't know weaknesses for every boss unit, which the testers do... heck, we helped decide them ;o

I agree that some will learn faster than others of course. I'd like to also point out though, that we mostly tested on leg, not heroic. We'd occasionally make it to the mithril thralls, and once when it was really bugged and none of the fetch and locks came, we beat it! :P :)

I have yet to review the film (though I was in the game) but if I remember correctly, out of 14 players there were 6 main testers: Ara, Giliath, Gleep, scrap, woof and myself. I don't believe there was any point where we controlled 50% or more of the unit percentage.

As for the advantage of testers in a game, I think Brainbug and Graydon are both right. Practice and knowing how every thing works gives an advantage, and moreso working with the same team over many games is a huge plus, but it's not like most Myth players today are stupid and can't get very good at the map very quickly. For this reason, there isn't an "ineligibilty rule" for beating Legendary.

Still, if Legendary gets beat, I bet I'll be the captain that game. ;)

Hey!

As for the skill of the testers, I was in no way a full time tester like some of those kids were, but they are definetly where it is at. They played a round almost every night for like 6 months. That my friends is devotion, and I am sure they now hold an unparalled level of skill in the mazz arena.

Um the only time we beat legendary was about four months and 20 betas ago. If I recall correctly, your were absent that night ! Something about three consecutive 18 hr workdays and 3 hrs of sleep while your pet mice made evil gurgling noises at you. Wuss.

Oh and then, when you found out we finally won a legendary (1/200 tries), you doubled the number of bosses in the next beta. :P

I think legendary can be won. Near-flawless game play with about 8-10 excellent players plus VERY good luck with rc's and arti's will do it. I think when you have 14 players, too much can go wrong from lack of communication. A team of 8-10 can each have a special unit and melee for protection should other team members be a bit slow to get there.

Also I have a secret plan :) But I need disciplined players to enact it. Schematics and cryptic runes to follow.

So I assume all teams that use the golem controlling glitch and win are disqualified? It helped a bit, although we didn't win. >_>

Anyway, is that going to be fixed?

Could somebody put up a link to the film?

Da Cid, no it won't be fixed. Consider it an unintentional feature.

DK, sorry it's taking so long. I hope to have the review (and film) ready early this coming week.
